A tutorial for your trade

Each one is a real job, done the way an estimator or surveyor would do it. Pick the one closest to your work; the tools are the same whatever you install.

Price a house's electrical

A whole house, from an empty floor plan to a priced takeoff that says how many devices and how many feet of cable the job needs.

  • Start a project and let the AI find the plan's scale
  • Mark rooms, then count receptacles, GFCIs, switches and lights
  • Run cable from the panel, with a drop at every device
  • Read the priced takeoff: devices by the count, cable in feet

A commercial security install

Cameras, intrusion detection, access control and the panels in an office, with all the low-voltage cabling in its own cost centre.

  • Set up two sections with their own cost centres
  • Place cameras, detectors, access control and the panels
  • Run Cat6 and security cable with a termination allowance
  • Move every cable run to the cabling cost centre in one go

A fire and safety survey

A surveyor's first visit to a site: walk the building once, mark each fire asset on the floor plan as you reach it, then create them all in Simpro in one go.

  • Open a site's map and add its building and floor plan
  • Walk the floor once, marking each asset as you reach it
  • Switch asset type in two taps, with your recent types at the top
  • Create every asset in Simpro at once, then fill in a door's details

A revised drawing arrives

Rev B of the lighting plan lands after you've priced Rev A. Swap it in under your takeoff, see exactly what changed, and fix only that.

  • Upload Rev B under the takeoff you priced on Rev A
  • See what changed: the overlay, and every changed area numbered
  • Use Rev B without moving a single mark
  • Fix the takeoff change by change, then check it off

Count a fit-out by symbol

Box one downlight and one power point and every match on the plan is counted for you to check, then place banks of switches with one click each.

  • Box one symbol and count every match on the plan
  • Pick Strict, Balanced or Loose, and box small symbols tightly
  • Review the matches: reject the legend's, approve the rest
  • Place banks of switches as ×N stacks, one click each

Price a fire alarm installation

A two-storey unit's fire alarm, counted zone by zone from the designer's layout, with the cable loop and its drops, then handed out as a marked-up PDF with a legend.

  • Set up a section per fire zone from a two-sheet layout
  • Give detectors, call points, sounders and the panel their Fire symbols
  • Count the devices zone by zone and run the cable loop with a drop at every device
  • Export a marked-up PDF with a scale bar and a Detailed legend

Review and price a takeoff

A small lighting and power job priced step by step: labour, a fit time, your company's cable rules, markup, discount, fee and a Simpro price tier.

  • Set labour hours on a line, and the labour rate from Simpro
  • Add a fit time to every run of an item with Apply to all
  • Switch your company's cable rules on for one takeoff
  • Markup, discount, fee, a price tier and tax, down to the total and margin

Plans from the quote's attachments

The builder's drawings are already attached to the quote in Simpro. Take them straight from there, choose the pages, and add more pages later from the plan library.

  • Start a project that updates an existing Simpro quote
  • Take the plans from the quote's attachment folders
  • Choose pages, with sheets, sections and scales read for you
  • Add another page later from the plan library

Wall linings under different ceilings

Plasterboard and paint by wall area in a fit-out with three ceilings: a 2.7 m office, a double-height foyer and a raked meeting room, with the doors and windows taken out.

  • Set a section's ceiling height, and a room's own for a double-height foyer
  • Draw wall runs round each space and price them by wall area
  • Give a raked wall a height at each point, so its sides are trapezoids
  • Take doors and windows out as openings, and add paint to the same walls

As-Built and assets on a job

The install is done: record what went in on an As-Built, then tie every detector, extinguisher and exit sign to an asset on the customer's site in Simpro.

  • Start a takeoff on a Simpro job and mark its sheet complete
  • Make an As-Built and adjust it to what was installed
  • Turn it into an Asset Plan with only the asset items
  • Create or match every site asset in Simpro, and download the asset summary

Not sure which one?

  • You price jobs from plans (electrical, data, HVAC, plumbing): start with the house. It covers scale, rooms, counts, cable and the priced quote.
  • Your quotes split into cost centres, or you install low-voltage systems: the security install adds sections and moving lines between them.
  • You survey or service a site (fire, security, HVAC assets): the fire survey is the site map on a tablet, end to end.
